Something you may or may not know about me: I’m Something you may or may not know about me: I’m a Mad Men fanatic 📺🥃

Not only is it a great show, but it offers a glimpse into what marketing was like in the 50s and 60s - which is quality entertainment for a marketing nerd like myself 🤓

Every time I re-watch the series (I’ll leave how many times I’ve seen it up to the imagination), I pick up on different things. And this question that Don asks a client is still so relevant in today’s business world.

When you’re selling a product or service, you need to first consider who you’re talking to. And not just general groups like “people in their 20s” or “retirees.” You need to get SPECIFIC with it. 📝

How old are they? Are they single? Do they rent or own their home? Do they lease or own their car? Do they have kids? Do they have pets? How much money do they make? 🤔

When Don asks his client this question, he’s asking because he wants to know who he’s marketing to, specifically. Because that will then determine the imagery, copy and placement of the ads. Audience first, always.

What are some characteristics of your ideal customer? 💡
Out of office ✌️🦆🐎 **also, I’m cringi Out of office ✌️🦆🐎

**also, I’m cringing so hard at that ponytail of mine 🤣 appropriate for the occasion but so bad. Founding father vibes.
Besides being a marketing nerd, I’m also (kinda) Besides being a marketing nerd, I’m also (kinda) a crazy plant lady 🪴

One thing about plants that I’ve learned is, sometimes they reach their full potential in the container they’re in, and if they aren’t repotted, they won’t get any bigger/stronger/healthier. And the same goes for us as business owners, and as people.

So if you’ve outgrown your branding? Repot. If your website no longer serves you the way you need it to, repot. If you need to make a change in the type of clients you cater to, repot. If it’s time to up your pricing, repot. If the people around you are bringing you down instead of building you up, REPOT.

Repotting isn’t changing who you are - it’s simply allowing yourself the space you need to grow.
Small business owners: unbothered 🤣💡 Small business owners: unbothered 🤣💡
Who is your IDEAL customer? How old are they? How Who is your IDEAL customer? How old are they? How much money do they make? Kids or no kids? Own or rent? What problem do they have that you can solve better than anyone else?

When you’re marketing your business, market with this specific person in mind, instead of trying to market to a huge group of people. Use language and visuals that would apply to THIS person. Sell the problem that you can solve for them, not the product or service.

Answer the questions up top for yourself 👆👆 and get even more in-depth and specific! Because when you know exactly who you’re talking to, marketing becomes easy. 💡
